Rescue gone wrong:

Shannon Miranda, Mirandas Rescue (No Cal)

WITNESS STATEMENTS

Mirandas Rescue, Fortuna CA, is embroiled in deceit, death, neglect, abuse and fraud.

Below are just SOME of the witness* statements taken which have been gathered by a Private Investigator who is preparing to submit all of the information gleaned to the appropriate authorities. The reason this exercise is not yet complete is simply because more and more witnesses continue to come forward; the darkest secrets of Mirandas Rescue continue to come out of the woodwork.

Operating under the guise of an honorable and giving member of the community, the reality of Shannon Miranda is an entirely different story.

One of the witnesses stated that he has the recordings in his possession where Shannon Miranda and his brother John are talking about killing animals.  Because Shannon Miranda was not aware that he was recorded, we asked him to allow us to release the tapes to which we had no response. Shannon Miranda continues to feign innocence of all allegations. If he is truly innocent, why is he not agreeing to release the tapes?

Read on to learn the abhorrent truth (the witness statements are summarised and then below you will find a gallery of the statements in full), including instances of Shannon Miranda and/or his brother John:

  • BEATING dogs and horses

  • SHOOTING dogs and horses, including pitbulls who were difficult to adopt out

  • EUTHANIZING cats who got sick because they did not adequately isolate and treat sick cats

  • Consumed by GREED, bred and sold animals for profit.

Shannon Miranda, your run of destroying the lives of the animals that you claim to protect, of abusing the goodwill of the public who are trying to help animals, for personal gain, and neglecting and abusing innocent animals who have no voice, is coming to an end.

*Note that the witness names have been changed for anonymity.

Witness 1

  • Nancy volunteered for Mirandas rescue for a period of 6 months.

  • She witnessed Shannon Miranda “aggressively grab and throw dogs” on 8 occasions, resulting in them yelping and whining.

  • She also saw dogs cower in his presence.

  • Every few weeks several dogs would “disappear without explanation” overnight; these were mostly pitbulls, with no adoption interest.

  • Nancy was informed that John (Shannon Mirandas brother) was taking them to the forest to shoot them.

  • Nancy estimated that 35-40 dogs disappeared in this manner during her time as a volunteer.

  • Nancy also had concerns about the conditions the animals were kept in, with sick cats mixed in with healthy cats, and wet and dirty blankets for the dogs.

Witness 2

  • Steve has known Shannon Miranda 10 years, and was friends with Shannon’s brother John; he owns rural land that Shannon brought animals to.

  • Steve has incriminating recordings of conversations he has had with Shannon Miranda and John (note we are not able to release these recordings at this time).

  • Shannon Miranda brought several horses to Steve’s property which he stated he “wanted to get rid of”. Shannon sent workers to the property to shoot them.

  • Shannon also sent a pig to Steve’s property that he wanted killed.

  • Shannon boasted to Steve of how he abused the social security system, claiming disability income (despite appearing fit and well) and also not declaring substantial incomings.

  • John admitted to Steve that he would pick up Pitbulls at night from Mirandas Rescue that were thought to be aggressive, and would shoot them in a rural area.

  • On one occasion, as he was “tired of shooting them”, John released 13 pitbulls into the wild.

  • Shannon Miranda admitted to Steve that he starved a sheep to death.

Witness 3

  • Mary was a professional horse and dog trainer and volunteered at Mirandas Rescue off and on for many years up to 2012.

  • Mary witnessed cats being kept together with most of them always sick.

  • Horses were kept in small pens and their hooves were not cared for properly.

  • She observed Shannon Miranda be very rough with a dog, and many were tense around him.

  • One dog had (allegedly, unexplainably) twisted its leg so bad that Shannon told Mary he was going to have it put down.

  • The aviary was seldom cleaned and the birds did not have adequate water provided.

  • Mary felt Shannon grew increasingly greedy and was making money "under the table".

  • Mary was concerned at the number of pitbulls Mirandas Rescue was taking in; the local Humane Society struggled to adopt out the pitbulls yet Mirandas’ kennels were always full but with different dogs whenever she checked.

  • Mary witnessed Shannon goading a bird by hitting it on the beak with a tape measure.Shannon admitted to Mary that he was mating exotic birds and selling them for profit.

Witness 4

  • Anne volunteered at Mirandas Rescue for 4-5 years.

  • Anne witnessed Shannon Miranda and his vet tech euthanize 50 cats at one time; the sick cats were not isolated and all the cats got the same illness.

  • Anne witnessed Shannon beating dogs that had shown aggression when he was handling them; including slapping in the face, throwing to the ground and punching on the shoulder area.

  • Anne stated Shannon breeds miniature donkeys, and sells their offspring.

  • Shannon Miranda double charged - when stray animals were both dropped off at and picked up from the rescue.

Witness 5

  • Tracey, used to be a strong supporter of Mirandas Rescue and visited the facility several times.

  • Tracey cared for a sick old man who was her neighbor, and the man had written Tracey and her son into her will.

  • Tracey was set to take care of the man’s 2 dogs upon his death.

  • Shannon Miranda convinced the man to change his will to donate his estate to Mirandas Rescue.

  • Upon his death, Shannon Miranda sold the man’s property, threw sentimental items he could not sell into a dumpster, and shortly after taking in the 2 dogs, they both died.

Witness 6

  • Frank, volunteered at Mirandas Rescue for over 4 years.

  • During this period, Shannon Miranda did not have a professional or experienced dog trainer yet accepted aggressive dogs into his rescue.Shannon’s training method included “scolding” the dogs.

  • Frank was told by several other volunteers that Shannon had beat a horse with a 2 x 4 board.

  • Disease was not contained and many cats got sick and had to be euthanized.
