Rescue gone wrong
We felt it necessary to include a section on this website to publish reports on verified, evidence based wrongdoing by rescues / rescuers. The world of rescue is challenging enough for all those involved before unscrupulous "rescues" are thrown into the mix! Donators want to know that their money is going to rescues that act with integrity and in the best interests of both the animals and the people that help animals. In our view, the "rescues" featured on this page, do not.
There are a number of facebook pages, blogs etc which will publish claims that people are "scammers" etc without doing their homework first and verifying what is hearsay (or plain fiction!) and what is evidence based and factual. We aim for this site to be a credible source listing rescues / rescuers to avoid supporting and why, and will ONLY publish information that has been verified with first hand testimony and is supported by documentation to substantiate any claims, and will publish said documentation when we are able to do so.
Resolving the issues resulting from the actions of irresponsible and unscrupulous rescuers takes resouces (both time and money) away from the animals sitting in shelters needing to be helped. If we work together as a united force against the unnecessary killing of innocent animals, we can achieve so much more, however, knowing who is trustworthy is becoming increasingly difficult to fathom. We hope that the information we publish helps you to make an informed decision about rescues / rescuers that may not warrant your support.

Christine James / CJ's Rescue (Snohomish, WA)
We will show how Christine James:
a) Abandoned a dog she took into her rescue because of behavioural issues
b) Misappropriated $575 of pledges for this dog
c) Lied about the foster (who was nothing but devoted to this dog, and who stood by the dog when Christine James didn't) and publicly falsely accused her of killing the dog!
Annette Owen (Furry Angels Rescue and Safe Haven, AZ)
We will show how Annette Owen / Evans:
a) Abandoned 4 dogs in boarding for 5 months and failed to provide them with vetting over this period
b) Provided inadequate vetting for another 2 dogs in boarding
c) Left a severely dog aggressive dog in boarding for 44 days with no training despite $1,300 in pledges
d) Failed to provide adequate support for 2 fosters with dog aggressive dogs resulting in 2 of them ending up in a shelter!
Shannon Miranda (Mirandas Rescue, No Cal)
We will show you the faces of fifty pit bulls whose fate is unknown having been sent to MURDERING Mirandas Rescue between 2012 and 2013. Shannon Miranda is a fraud, and having marketed himself as a “sanctuary” now admits, in writing, to his policy to euthanize animals he deems “unadoptable”. In many cases he has refused to provide proof of adoption; we may never know which animals had a happy ending, or tragic and untimely death.
Susan Nash / Blutopia Rescue (Anza, CA)

2 adult Chihuahuas (one of which was decapitated) and 4 puppies found dead in a freezer within Susan Nash’s property

5 pitbulls found dead, buried in the Anza desert with gunshot wounds to the head; with 2 witnesses reporting these deaths were at the instruction of Susan Nash

A further 3 bodies reportedly buried on Susan Nash’s property.
Summer Marie Borton / We Believe Pet Rescue (CA / IL)
We will show how Summer Marie Borton:
a) Has abandoned 2 dogs with fosters that offered to temporary foster only
b) Has fled to a new state and left All About the Animals to place and fundraise for 6 dogs that she rescued and she did not take with her (whom she threatened to take to a shelter)
c) Has taken $500+ in profit from a dog's pledges despite owing the foster $352.
